Science Day

Pupils at Youlgrave All Saints’ C of E Primary School got National Science Week off to a fine start with a whole day of investigations.

Foundation Stage and Year 1 pupils were investigating changing materials through play using an ‘ice world’, jelly, chocolate and mixed powder paints.

Years 2, 3 and 4 investigated air. They made windmills, sail boats with different sized sails and gyrocopters. They had great fun testing their creations outside.

Years 5 and 6 investigated the insulating properties of different material and observed the changes that occurred to ‘ice hands’ over time.

New Headteacher, Mrs Fiona Jackson said: “The staff worked very hard to plan and prepare the numerous ‘hands on’ activities. It was quite evident from the amount of involvement and fun the children were having just how much they were learning from this focus day – who knows we may have sown a seed in someone to go on and be a super scientist in the future!”.
