Active at All Saints’
Once again All Saints’ has achieved the annual Active Mark status for the year 2008, by increasing the physical activity levels for the children in school- Well Done!
Alongside the curriculum PE, sports clubs, competitions and festivals, children at All Saints’ C of E participate in 15 minutes of Wake Up, Shake Up every morning.
This is a lively, fun session of stretching, exercises and dancing, led by the staff and some children to pop music. It certainly wakes everyone up and prepares them for learning!
St George’s Day Press Release
Pupils at Youlgrave All Saints’ C of E celebrated St George’s Day on the 23rd April with a full day of activities. All the staff and pupils wore St George or dragon outfits or came dressed in red and white for the day. Lots of art and craftwork took place following an act of Collective Worship dedicated to the Saint and his work. The catering staff even provided a traditional English roast dinner, Ploughman’s lunch and red and white crumble to add to the authenticity of the day.
Mrs Jackson, Headteacher, said “As a Church of England School named All Saints’ it is important for us to celebrate Saints Days. I was very impressed by the creativity and ingenuity of our parents and children who went to great lengths to provide some stunning outfits. I’m very pleased that our dragons didn’t have the capacity to breathe real fire!”
Science Day
Pupils at Youlgrave All Saints’ C of E Primary School got National Science Week off to a fine start with a whole day of investigations.
Foundation Stage and Year 1 pupils were investigating changing materials through play using an ‘ice world’, jelly, chocolate and mixed powder paints.
Years 2, 3 and 4 investigated air. They made windmills, sail boats with different sized sails and gyrocopters. They had great fun testing their creations outside.
Years 5 and 6 investigated the insulating properties of different material and observed the changes that occurred to ‘ice hands’ over time.
New Headteacher, Mrs Fiona Jackson said: “The staff worked very hard to plan and prepare the numerous ‘hands on’ activities. It was quite evident from the amount of involvement and fun the children were having just how much they were learning from this focus day – who knows we may have sown a seed in someone to go on and be a super scientist in the future!”.
Youlgrave School Nose Best

Staff and pupils at Youlgrave All Saints’ Primary School have been busy raising money for Comic Relief. They raised £103 by selling red cakes, playing games with red noses and selling red nose quiz sheets. The day was organised by The School Council who asked everyone to wear something red or come in a funny red outfit. The school then had a fashion show and lots of activities organised in House groups. They sold cakes and biscuits which had been donated by the parents and carers, in fact they had so many donated, they had to sell them after school as well! The School Council liaised with Mrs. Wood, Cook Supervisor to arrange a red themed lunch. Headteacher, Mrs. Jackson, said ‘For a small school we have a tremendous amount of parental support and for that I am extremely grateful. Days like today are very humbling and the children here are very caring and considerate. Everyone was very keen to raise money for such a worthwhile cause. The School Council have done a great job and we had amazing fun too!.
