ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL As you are aware, our absence figures are constantly monitored by the DfES and by the Local Authority. Should your child be absent from school for any reason, you should take the following steps:-
· Make a telephone call to school to report a pupil absence (before 9 am) · Follow up the absence with a letter to the child’s class teacher giving reasons for absence.
Where possible, please try and avoid taking holidays during term-time, as this can have an adverse effect on your child’s education. If you have to request permission to take your child out of school for a holiday, forms can be obtained from the school office. However, please be aware that 4 weeks notice is required to process leave of absence applications.
The department of children, Schools and Families have instructed Headteachers and School Governing Bodies to discourage parent's most strongly from taking pupils out of school for family holidays during term time. As a result, parents are reminded that they must obtain prior permission from the Headteacher for any absence and these have to be logged as pupil on holiday or unauthorised absence. Please do not book family holidays especially during May when the children sit their annual tests.
We have adopted Derbyshire County Councils method of authorising holiday requests. This consists of a value point system depending on the month of the holiday, how close the holiday is to annual school tests and the personal levels of absence of the child. After a total of 7 points has been achieved, the request will be denied.

Winter Policy
Please ensure your child/children come(s) to school with an appropriate coat with hood, hats, gloves and shoes/wellingtons. A spare pair of socks is also a good idea. Please make sure all wellingtons contain your child's name and a clothes peg helps to keep them all together.
On the rare occasion of school closure due to adverse weather conditions, notices will be displayed outside school, a message recorded on the answer machine if possible, and reports will be read out on the local radio station - Radio Derby.
The Radio Derby Station Frequency is 104.5FM or 11.16MW
We will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum and will inform Radio Derby of any decisions as early as possible. However, we do aim to keep the school open. |
